Emmett Kelly Booth
Named after one of Alex's favorite childhood role models - Emmett Kelly, the circus clown!

Okay, okay.. we're kidding. Alex hates clowns with a passion. They scare him even now. (Sorry Teri, we couldn't help ourselves.)
The real name is Patrick Allen Booth. We're trying it out and hoping it fits once our son is born. The Patrick is just because we like it and the Allen was Alex's Grandpa Horn's middle name. My only issue with Patrick is that I don't like shortened version, Pat, for a boy. I'm hoping he won't be inclined to go with that when he's older. If he is I may have to pull out some old SNL "Pat" skits so he can understand my aversion to the name Pat. While he's still marinating (in the womb) I've been referring to him as "Patrick Fetus"... mostly because Alex always thinks I'm talking about some other Patrick when I don't specify. I promise we'll drop the "fetus" part once he's born.
As of last Saturday I'm 23 weeks along, which means I'm definitely sporting the belly (thankfully, it's a hot trend here in Provo) and sleeping much worse. Back pain is my latest symptom, but the nausea is 100% gone and I haven't had too much trouble with heartburn. Oh, and the kicking. There were several weeks where I didn't notice much movement and thought maybe something was wrong... but now I'm kicked, jabbed, and poked on a daily basis. Apparently the little guy really likes to dance. He's constantly doing the Mexican Hat Dance on my bladder. Not awesome. Alex has discovered that the baby responds to belly rubbing, so often he'll hold his hand on once side and rub the other to make the baby kick. It always cute to feel the swift kick back and see the look of satisfaction on Alex's face.
Aside from the baby. Today we both have a day off for Memorial Day and we're bound and determined to enjoy it. Alex has to work later today and I need to run a few errands, but otherwise we're going to get some R&R before going to a No Doubt concert tonight. I actually completely forgot about the concert until just now. Love those hormones!
Hope everyone is enjoying their day off... and if you're working, I hope you're getting holiday pay (yeah baby, time and a half!).

Cute! I hope it fits the baby. I agree that I definitely don't like the name pat... but it might grow on us..
Maren :)
skype later...
Emmett Kelly was iconic. When you said that name I knew it would be this face. I hate clowns also, but he had more of a downtrodden, hobo-like persona. I wonder if it sprang from the depression years... when many people might identify with that sort of dilemma.
Just came in from outdoors. Despite the amount of work undone in the yard... it's absolutely park-like right now, with freshly mown grass and so many flowers, fragrances and bird songs. Some fledgling Robins were near the orchard. They look awfully vulnerable, but might be okay if they elude predators long enough to sprout a few more feathers.
Well.. this has nothing to do with baby names. I just wanted you to know I officially visited. :-) When we talked on the phone this guy was who I envisioned when you mentioned Emmett Kelly.
Talk to you later! Oh... when we dropped by Safeway for milk on the way home, they played a classic by No Doubt (Don't Speak) while we were in the store. It was about the time you would have been getting seated for the concert, I think. :-)
Love, Mom
i'm so jealous, i love no doubt! i really like the name patrick, and emmett. shoot, if you're not gonna use it i might ask scott if we can put it on the table if we ever have a boy. :)
Hey, it's Pat!
I just Googled Emmett Kelly to read about the character he always portrayed and find out when he was born (on my father's birthday... only in 1898)... and came across this story. I think even Alex would enjoy reading this. :-)
